KUCHING, Oct 15: Sarawak United People’s Party Public Complaint Bureau (SUPP PCB) chief Wilfred Yap calls for the cooperation of coffee shop owners in Kota Sentosa to be responsible in disposing of their food waste.

According to Yap, he has received a complaint from the public on a clogged sewage pipe and public drain behind some shop houses opposite the Kota Sentosa Market, which was caused by improper disposal of food waste by the coffee shop operators.

He said after relaying the matter to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), the issue has been immediately addressed whereby the blocked public drain and sewage pipes have been cleared and repaired.

“To ensure that the blockage of the public drain and sewage pipe does not happen again, I have requested for MPP officers to issue a reminder to the coffee shop owners to ensure that all the sinks in their shop are installed with properly maintained strainers or grease traps to prevent out flow of food waste from being channeled directly into the public drain,” he said in a statement today.

Yap also hoped that the food operators will be more civic minded to help protect the environment.

“A clean and hygienic environment would also attract more customers for the food operators,” he added.

At the same time, Yap, who is also the SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, assures that he is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.

“Anyone requiring assistance can always call SUPP PCB’s mobile number at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go directly to SUPP Head Office to request for assistance,” he said. –DayakDaily.
