MIRI, April 11: A total of RM5,471,000 has been disbursed from January to March this year by Miri Division Welfare Department as monthly financial aid to 4,420 disadvantaged and needy individuals.
This was disclosed by Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah today during Dynasty Hotel’s ‘Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya’ ceremony jointly hosted by the Welfare Department here and Dynasty Hotel.
According to Fatimah, the recipients were listed under the Welfare Department’s various assistance schemes.
A total of 100 recipients were present during the ceremony this morning with each one of them receiving a hamper.
Recipients who did not have the opportunity to attend today’s Sejambak Kasih programme will receive RM100 directly put into their bank account.
This year in Miri Division, a total of 1,002 recipients will receive financial aid in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration totaling RM100,200.
Meanwhile, for the year 2022 until February this year (2023), Fatimah said, a total of RM3,048,576 was disbursed to help flood victims here.
“There were a total of 548 cases recieved during that period with 18,509 families and 60,457 victims for the year 2022 to February 2023,” she disclosed.
For fire victims in this division, Fatimah added, the Sarawak government via the Welfare Department had channeled a total of RM487,950 to 315 victims from 92 families after their houses were destroyed in fire incidents.
“This amount includes (the cost of) building materials to re-build victims’ houses and business property that were damaged in fire incidents,” she explained.
Meanwhile, RM62,800 was disbursed to help 132 storm victims in Miri Division for the same period (2022 to February this year) and RM17,300 was channeled to assist 176 landslides victims.
Also present were Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Dynasty Hotel managing director Tony Pui. — DayakDaily
