KUCHING, July 17: Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions president Datuk Richard Wee will be vying for the president’s post of Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA).
The SFCA election will be held on Aug 3-4 in Miri.
Wee said this decision is the wish of the management committee of the Federation of Chinese Association of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions which recently made a decision to recommend Wee to contest for the post.
In a recent statement, the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions announced the decision and expressed their strong support in backing Wee to contest for the post.
The federation said it hoped to undertake a bigger responsibility so that it could bring greater benefits to the Chinese community in areas such as socio-culture, education, economics and political development.
The management committee also expresssed its hope to see more efforts carried out to enhance inter-cultural interactions to protect harmony and understanding as well as to strengthen integration between different ethnic groups in Sarawak.
“I may want to take it up as the management committee has recommended me to do so and it is their hope that if I were to take over, more could be done for the Chinese community as well as the Chinese business community in Sarawak,” Wee told DayakDaily.
Current SFCA president Datuk Hii Teck Yun announced his intention to retire recently.
He said after seven long years of holding the post, it was time for him to call it a day and give way to a new leader who can bring the association to greater heights. — DayakDaily
