GEDONG, Nov 3: Community leaders have loudly expressed their support for incumbent and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Gedong in the coming 13th Sarawak Election.
According to TVS, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Gedong branch deputy chief Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais said the support reflects the community’s gratitude for the development initiatives Abang Johari introduced during his tenure as the incumbent representative.
“We, the people of Gedong, express our unwavering support for the Sarawak Premier and appeal for him to remain our candidate in Gedong,” he said in a TVS news report.
He said various development projects had been implemented through inclusive economic policies that directly benefit the people, which include welfare assistance and efforts to preserve religious harmony regardless of background, as well as the construction of houses of worship through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
“This political stability and visionary leadership are what we want, as they are key to the state’s continued progress, particularly in rural areas,” he said.
Abang Johari, who is also PBB president and GPS chairman, won the Gedong State seat with a majority of 3,607 votes in the 12th Sarawak Election in 2021.
He secured 4,310 votes to defeat Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini, who obtained 703 votes. The other two candidates were Tomson Ango of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), who received 157 votes, and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) candidate Kamal Bujang, who garnered 94 votes.
