KUCHING, Mar 2: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government relies on constructive engagement with civil society organisations to ensure public policies address the needs of the people, highlighting the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions (FCAKSS) as a key partner.
Speaking through Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the Federation’s 2026 Chinese New Year dinner on Sunday (Mar 1) at the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex, Abang Johari noted the Federation’s role in providing feedback and facilitating communication between the Chinese community and the State government.
“The State government firmly believes that constructive engagement between civil society and the government ensures that policies better reflect the needs of the people.
“We welcome responsible, rational, and dialogue-oriented organisations to work hand in hand with the government in serving the people,” he said.
Abang Johari commended FCAKSS president Dato Sri Richard Wee Liang Chiat for maintaining an active platform for dialogue and cooperation. He highlighted the Federation’s efforts in uniting members and submitting constructive proposals to the State government.
The Premier also acknowledged the Chinese community’s contributions to commerce, education, technology, and professional sectors in Sarawak, and encouraged young graduates and professionals including those working overseas, to consider careers in the Sarawak civil service to strengthen administrative capacity.
On Sarawak’s constitutional position, he reaffirmed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak Government (GPS) will continue to safeguard the State’s rights over oil and gas resources while pursuing cooperative arrangements with the federal government.
At the event, he approved RM200,000 for the Federation’s association fund in recognition of its contributions to community development. — DayakDaily
