KUCHING, Sept 14: Sarawak does not want ‘war’ with Peninsular Malaysia, but only justice and its dues paid, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said this in light of recent comments on social media that incited Peninsular Malaysia leaders to fight back at Sarawak’s claim over its rights of the oil wells discovered on Sarawak shores.
With both arms raised over his head, Abang Johari said: “No, I don’t want to fight. As the Premier of Sarawak, (I’m saying that) I don’t want to fight. I only want fairness.”
Clarifying, he said, Sarawak is merely abiding by its Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958 when the Federal government refers to the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974.
“We work together for Malaysia. If Sarawak rises, Malaysia rises as well.
“Our intention is for the good of the whole Malaysia,” he said at the 2023 Integrity Prime Mandate Council and National Integrity Conference Officiating Ceremony held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
Abang Johari also called on Malaysians not to frown upon Sarawak as Sarawak is only fighting for its rights.
“Don’t look down on Sarawak. When we fight for our rights, it doesn’t mean that we are parochial, no.
“We only want a system that is fair. We have MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963). That is our law,” he added. — DayakDaily
