KUCHING, April 12: Water disruption in Selidap, Sg Sian, Tanjung Bundong and Bukit Papit in Bintangor district was due to leakage of the submarine pipeline at Sg Muara Payang on March 16.
The Ministry of Utilities and the State Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) said in a press statement today that work to fix the submarine pipeline is ongoing and would be completed soonest possible.
In addition, the ministry explained that the new alternative pipe built from Bukit Papit could not meet the demand for water supply for all users in the affected area.
The situation worsened following the leakage of the DICL 500mm pipe due to construction work on the proposed Pan Borneo Highway, which also affected the water supply from Sarikei to Bintangor.
JBALB Sarikei Division has been delivering water to the affected areas to address the difficulties faced by consumers.
The Ministry of Utilities and JBALB emphasised that all planned projects would be monitored in greater detail so they could be implemented as scheduled.
In the event of water supply disruptions or requests for water supply delivery, those affected can contact JBALB Sarikei office at 084-657990. — DayakDaily
