KUCHING, April 1: Water tankers were deployed last night to Kenyalang Park food centre and Jalan Mendu after a burst pipe disrupted water supply, ensuring hawkers and residents could continue daily activities while repairs are underway.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, together with councillors Albert Tay and Eric Tay, visited the affected areas on March 31 following reports from hawkers about the water supply disruption.
In a statement, Wee said he was alerted to the situation through messages and immediately proceeded to the sites to assess the situation and coordinate relief measures.
Upon visiting, he immediately contacted Sarawak Water to request the immediate deployment of water tankers.
“The livelihood of our hawkers is important. We must ensure that basic services like water supply are restored quickly, or alternative solutions are provided so that businesses can continue as usual,” he said.
The water tankers now provide temporary relief to the affected areas while repair works on the damaged pipe continue.
Wee assured the public that close coordination with Sarawak Water is ongoing to expedite repairs and restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
“Members of the public are advised to remain patient and cooperative while the repair works are in progress. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” he added. — DayakDaily
