KUCHING, July 4: The water outage problem faced by residents of Polarwood Estate and the surrounding areas of Lorong Lapangan Terbang 5 last night (July 3) was alleviated in a little over an hour.
In a press statement today, Michael Kong Feng Nian, who is special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said after contacting Kuching Water Board (KWB) on the matter, they learned that there was a water pipe which burst after it was damaged by contractors hired to carry out ongoing road works at Jalan Stampin Ammo Depot near Saradise.
“Works to fix the affected water pipe had only commenced this morning and are expected to continue right up till the afternoon. However, due to the urgency of the matter last night, we contacted KWB at around 8.30pm for water tankers to be mobilised.
“I was able to observe the water distribution process by KWB and appreciate the prompt response upon receiving our request. Three water tankers were mobilised, and by 9.45pm, they were able to go from house to house to distribute water to those who needed it,” he said.
Kong added that during the entire process, they were able to talk to the residents and get their input on the issue.
“We understand that this has happened before during the MCO (movement control order), where the water pipe at the exact location also burst. We shall continue to monitor the matter and help ensure that the water supply is rectified as soon as possible,” he said. — DayakDaily
