KUCHING, Nov 3: If you are tired of receiving political scam phone calls and texts, you are not alone. As the 15th general election (GE15) approaches, phone scams are becoming more frequent.

Some con artists appear to be conducting an election survey in which they solicit political donations and personal information.

Election Commission (EC) head of corporate communications Mohammad Azlan Charles Abdullah, told DayakDaily today following the EC media briefing on GE15 at a local hotel, that anyone receiving such political scam calls should immediately file a report with the Malaysia Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or the police.

“MCMC has a complaint portal that allows consumers to file complaints with the commission about any issue relating to the communications and multimedia sector, such as phone calls from scammers, and they will advise you on what to do.

“The public can always report these political scam cases to MCMC or the police as they are actually outside of our jurisdiction despite the fact that they relate to the general election,” Azlan emphasised.

If you suspect a phone call is a scam, you can file a report via the MCMC complaint portal at https://aduan.skmm.gov.my/ or by contacting the police directly. — DayakDaily
