KUCHING, July 3: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has sued Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen for allegedly labelling him “a hypocrite”.

Wan Junaidi demands damages of not less than RM1 million for defamation, an injunction to restrain the defendant from further speaking or publishing the said or other similar words defamatory of the plaintiff, and to pay cost on a solicitor and client basis and such further relief as the court deems fit.

High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Sandy Yvette Freddy fixed August 8 for mention.

Wan Junaidi, through his lawyer Wilfred Yap, issued a Letter of Demand to Chong Chieng Jen on April 3 this year to withdraw the said words and to publish an apology in newspapers of different languages.

The demands include to “unequivocally withdraw all the said words constituting the libel and to publish an apology in one English language newspaper, one Chinese language newspaper and one Bahasa Malaysia language newspaper; provide an undertaking not to publish hereafter the said or any similar allegation and compensate YB Wan Junaidi for the serious injury to his reputation and feelings which he has suffered in consequence of your publication of the said words.”

Chong was then given until 5pm on April 8, 2019, to respond to Wan Junaidi. — DayakDaily
