KUCHING, Oct 7: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar clarifies that his ministry’s efforts is concentrated on amending the relevant articles in the Federal Constitution which is related to Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as opposed to amending the agreement.
He pointed out that MA63 is an agreement signed between Great Britain, Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak on July 9, 1963 and was recognised by the United Nations.
He stressed that MA63 cannot be altered or amended.
“My ministry with the support of the Attorney General’s Chambers is working on the following objectives.
“Correct the articles in the Federal Constitution which cause the wrong interpretation to MA63.
“The amendment has to be made in line with what was agreed in MA63.
“Return the rights of the people of Sabah and Sarawak which were eroded due to Federal Constitution amendment or drafting of new legislation since 1963.
“Realise what have been stated in the Federal Constitution but was not fully implemented in particular at the implementation stage by government officers on duty,” he said in a press statement today.
Wan Junaidi who is also the Santubong MP said the issue of MA63 is something that was close to the hearts of the people of the Borneon States and has been a hot topic of discussion.
He said the issue has been given special attention by the federal government as it involves amending the Federal Constitution.
Wan Junaidi asserted that the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is committed to ensure Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak will enjoy the same rights as their counterparts in Peninsular Malaysia. — DayakDaily
