KUCHING, April 28: It is crucial for graduates and skilled workers to join professional bodies such as the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) to provide competent manpower to assist Sarawak in its digital economy (DE) agenda and enable Sarawak to achieve developed status by 2030.
In highlighting this, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager TS Dr Zaidi Razak urged graduates and skilled workers to join MBOT as members so that they could become certified technicians and technologists and be able to use the ‘TS’ initial.
“It is significant for us to have a number of technologists and technicians registered and endorsed by MBOT (in order) for us to achieve (Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy or PCDS) 2030, and in our context, we want to achieve a developed State by 2030,” he said in a media release today.
He raised this during a courtesy call by Sarawak-based Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT) delegates led by its chairman Ts Ir Ahmad Zawawi Kasmin at SMA office here today.
Zaidi expressed appreciation that APTT is coming up with some kind of awareness programmes soon and it is even willing to coach those who are interested to obtain the TS qualification from MBOT.
“So, we hope the intention of APTT to assist SMA could be achieved soon. In our meeting today, we agreed in principle to sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between SMA and APTT soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zawawi said currently APTT has 215 members from various fields such as electrical and electronic engineering, medical and health, biomedical, and building and construction.
He said all current APTT members are also members of MBOT.
“But we are not limiting our members because we are also accepting those non-members of MBOT as well. So, we can bring them in as members by coaching them in order for them to become professional technologists,” he explained.— DayakDaily
