KUCHING, April 10: Visa procedures and availability of flights remain as challenges to further promote two-way tourism between Malaysia and Chongqing in China.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said this has resulted in some routes remaining dormant, which slows down travel and tourism between the respective regions.

ā€œMotac (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture) will follow up on this issue with the relevant departments and agencies so we donā€™t lose further opportunities to recover Malaysiaā€™s tourism industry,ā€ he said in a Facebook post yesterday (April 9).

Tiong said Motac also pledges to strengthen cooperation between tourism operators and local governments as part of efforts to further promote two-way tourism between Malaysia and Chongqing.

He pointed out that it will involves preferential incentives and many others, which will be discussed further.

ā€œChongqing is renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage. As the cultural cooperation agreement between Malaysia and China has lapsed, it is time to renew relevant parts of the agreement to revitalise our exchanges and two-way visits for performances, arts, and cultural experiences.

ā€œThis friendly cultural exchange will go a long way to promote Malaysia and China to each other and the world,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
