Villagers protest headman’s application for perimeter survey

KAPIT, March 10: Eight villagers from Pasir Nai (Pala Wong), Kaki Mikai, Sg Pila/Metah who represented a total of 111 other villagers in the area handed over a letter of protest to the Divisional Land and Survey Department here on March 6.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Bukit Goram chairman Larry Asap said in a statement that the letter was to protest the application of village headman Tr Gendang Bili for a perimeter survey on the lands belonging to these villagers under Section 6 of the State Land Code .

“These villagers instead want to have their land surveyed and gazetted under Section 18 of the State Land Code and not under Section 6,” he added.

Larry said he supported the moved by the eight villagers who handed over the protest letter to the Land and Survey Department. They were Ramji Sibat, Pulot Rangge, James Mayau, Hussin Sibat, Purau Ukau, Roseline Ukau, Sindey Munsang and their leader Sylvester Gerunsen Jon.

He disclosed that these villagers and the land to be surveyed by Tr Gendang were under the jurisdiction of community leaders Penghulu Geruna and Penghulu Esit. — DayakDaily
