SAMALAJU, Feb 15: If there is one thing that people should take away from the Fire and Rescue department (Bomba), is that fire preparedness is key to preventing disaster.
“Fire safety awareness is important to protect lives and property. Everyone including children, should be aware of fire hazards, risks and what to do in the event if fire happens,” Samalaju Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Hashim Moshidi said.
If one emphasised on safety, Hashim stressed that fire could be avoided or mitigated.
A team of seven firefighters led by Hashim conducted a half-day programme with 55 residents of Kampung Ulu Nyalau today.
Fire safety talks and a fire extinguisher demonstration on a kitchen fire simulation, was held at the village’s community hall.
“The knowledge gained can be utilised any time, especially during a disaster. The village folks also learnt how to use the fire extinguisher correctly. They were also provided with information on security measures and preventive measures during emergencies,” Hashim said.
The department also gave two fire extinguishers (APA) to the village, which will be kept at the community hall. —DayakDaily
