KUCHING, July 21: Villagers in Kampung Tupong on Wednesday (July 20) hoisted the Sarawak flag in conjunction with Sarawak Day which falls on July 22.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, apart from flying the flag, the villagers also plan to hold a lantern parade through the village.
When met by reporters, Penghulu Kampung Tupong Batu Ramden Putit, who is representing Kuching North City Hall mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan for the programme, expressed hoped that other villages would also join the Sarawak Day celebration.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tupong resident Adenan Sahmat, when met by reporters opined that the programme, which is organised in conjunction with Sarawak Day, helps to create awareness among the public about Sarawak’s struggles.
The State-level Sarawak Day celebration this year will be celebrate in Sibu Indoor Stadium on July 22. It will also be aired live on TVS at Astro channel 122 and MyTV, as well as Ukas’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. — DayakDaily
