KUCHING, April 14: Vietnam’s BestPrice Travel is keen to explore the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia to enhance consumer confidence in the country’s tourism products.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the proposal was raised during a recent engagement session with BestPrice Travel, held alongside discussions with the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s presence in the Vietnamese travel market.

BestPrice Travel’s chief marketing officer, Bui Thanh Tu, said Malaysia’s strong appeal lies in its well-established amusement and recreational parks as well as its rich cultural diversity—key factors that attract family travellers and the younger demographic in Vietnam.

To raise Malaysia’s visibility further, Bui proposed strategic initiatives such as targeted media campaigns, active participation in travel fairs, and leveraging digital marketing channels.

“On digital marketing, he suggested combining social media along with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Key Opinion Consumers (KOCs) to promote Malaysia’s beautiful landscapes, cultural attractions, and more.

“He also expressed interest in exploring the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost consumer confidence in Malaysia’s tourism products.

“In turn, we will provide promotional materials featuring Malaysia’s latest offerings and attractions,” said Tiong.

VITA, which has 17,000 corporate members and 50,000 individual members including tour guides, chefs, and freelancers, was represented by its chairman, Vu The Binh.

He noted that Vietnam recorded 2.7 million outbound tourists between January and March 2025, and estimated that between 70,000 and 100,000 of them could have travelled to Malaysia in that period.

Vu also highlighted the potential of Malaysia’s traditional costumes and cultural performances to spark significant interest among the Vietnamese public.

“As such, there is an opportunity to organise cultural showcases to help more travellers experience Malaysia’s rich heritage,” Tiong added.

Tiong further stated that VITA pledged its support to help Tourism Malaysia’s regional office play a more proactive role in tourism-related activities held in Vietnam.

“This will ensure closer collaboration with local industry players and create more avenues for partnership and engagement,” he said. — DayakDaily
