MIRI, August 16: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a fishing boat and seized 200kg of fish from Vietnamese fishermen who encroached into the country’s waters on Wednesday (Aug 15).
Ten crew members onboard were also detained.
Miri Maritime Enforcement Agency District 13 (MMEA DM13) director Captain Md Fauzi Othman said the vessel was spotted during an Ops Permai patrol team at 4am on Wednesday.
The arrests were made around 4.25am at about 95.2 nautical miles off Kuala Bakam waters, Miri.
“The crew members aged between 16 to 52-years-old did not have valid documents and they failed to show their boat licence,” he said.
The confiscation is estimated to be worth around RM200,000. — DayakDaily
