KANOWIT, Jan 8: Continuous heavy rain and high river tides have caused a landslide that severely impacted the main bridge and jetty at Rumah George Bugal, Ng Stugah in Ngemah.
The incident, which occurred on Jan 3, was reported to the authorities by Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana today.
The Civil Defence Force (APM) Kanowit Unit conducted an on-site inspection the same day, but access to the longhouse was hindered due to slippery road conditions.
Instead, APM officers met with Tuai Rumah George at Kanowit Market to gather information.
The Tuai Rumah reported that the damaged jetty and bridge, essential for the longhouse residents, had become unusable, leaving no alternative for boat users to disembark, according to a report by APM.
The affected longhouse comprises 17 households with a total of 35 residents.
The APM confirmed that conditions at the longhouse are under control, but residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any developments regarding the landslide to the relevant agencies. – DayakDaily
