Verbal warnings today, compounds start tomorrow, Sibu police tell Ramadan bazaar traders

The Ramadan bazaar at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II received a good response from the public on its first day.

SIBU, April 3: Several traders at the Ramadhan bazaars in Taman Permai and Farley had been issued verbal warnings for not complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) DSP Ariffin Bahari who led the operation warned that the police would start issuing compounds to traders tomorrow if there are still traders who do not adhere to the SOPs.

“Given that this is only the first day of trading, we only gave them verbal warning. However, if it still happen, they can be compounded,” he said.

Among the SOPs that the traders had failed to be complied with, according to Ariffin, was not taking the RTK-Antigen COVID-19 test a day before beginning trading.

He said some traders were also found to be not using disposable gloves and aprons.

Ariffin said, his team will continue to monitor the three Ramadan bazaars here in an effort to ensure that visitors and traders comply with the SOPs as well as maintain cleanliness so as to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Overall on the first day of the Ramadan bazaars, we found that visitors complied with the SOPs except a handful of traders have not yet fully complied with the SOPs,” he said.

Apart from the two Ramadan bazaars mentioned earlier, the main Ramadan bazaar here is located at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II.

“We did not conduct monitoring at the main bazaar due to heavy rain and it was postponed to tomorrow afternoon (Monday),” Ariffin said. — DayakDaily
