KUCHING, June 25: Handling a Taser is not just about pulling the trigger but requires sound legal understanding and moral judgment under pressure, says Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili.
According to a TVS news report, Zulkipli emphasised that all police officers must undergo proper training to ensure they not only grasp the technical handling of the Taser Gun X2 but also understand the legal framework and ethical responsibility involved in using such force.
“Taser handling is not merely a matter of pressing a trigger. It’s about making the right decision under pressure, in line with the law and strict operational guidelines,” he was quoted as saying.
Zulkipli warned that misuse of the Taser could raise integrity issues and damage the reputation of the police force.
Earlier, 40 officers from various units under Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD Sibu) took part in the Taser Gun X2 Handling Course Series 1/2025 held at the Sungai Merah Police Station.
The course, conducted by Inspector Mohd Nazrul Dalhan of the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters Weapons Unit, focused on the concept, function, and safe usage of the Taser.
The course concluded with a closing ceremony officiated by Sibu Deputy Police chief Superintendent Boniface Bajai, and was also attended by ASP Wee Soon Guan and ASP Wilson Denis Ugap. — DayakDaily
