KUCHING, April 24: The US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised US citizens to avoid travelling to Malaysia.

CDC in a statement on its website dated April 20 said the advice came after the US listed Malaysia as Level 4, signalling a very ā€œhigh levelā€ of Covid-19 risk.

It added that even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk of being infected with Covid-19 and spreading Covid-19 variants, and they should avoid travelling to Malaysia.

At the same time, the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur also published a health alert on its website dated April 21.

ā€œRead the Department of Stateā€™s Covid-19 page before you plan any international travel.

ā€œThe CDC has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Malaysia due to Covid-19, indicating a very high level of Covid-19 in the country.

ā€œThere are restrictions in place affecting US citizen’s entry into Malaysia,” the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said.

Meanwhile, CDC said all air passengers to the US including US citizens are required to have negative Covid-19 test results no more than three days before travel or documentation of recovery from Covid-19 in the past three months before they board a flight to the US.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has stayed above 2,000 cases for more than a week. ā€” DayakDaily
