SERIAN, June 25: Works to upgrade the 15km Padawan Road is progressing well and is expected to be completed in two years, says Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Undertaken by rescue contractors, however, he said a slight delay might be expected.

ā€œThis is because when the previous contractor failed to deliver, there are certain laws and criteria to follow before the new contractor takes over,” Sagah told reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) mini theatre presentation at the Serian Conference Centre today.

The Tarat assemblyman said that the project, which started two years ago at the initial cost of RM80 million, was stopped after the service of the previous contractor was terminated as they failed to carry it out.

Earlier in March, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, when visiting the project site, said the new contractor for the project was identified on Feb 16 this year, with an estimated completion date of August 2026. ā€” DayakDaily
