MIRI, Oct 12: Miri City Council (MCC) has clarified that the 3-month contract works for the upgrading and installation of playground facilities at Miri Bulatan Park are still in progress.

MCC said currently the contractor has unfastened the bolts of one sliding board for maintenance and repairs.

“Therefore, the general public are advised not to enter the barricaded work site due to safety concerns,” said MCC in a press statement today.

In light of several posts on social media expressing concerns for the said children slide which is seemingly far too close to concrete benches, MCC chairman Adam Yii accompanied by Councillor Leslie Lau, personal assistant to Piassau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Chia Kah Furng and council officials visited the work site to determine the actual situation.

Arising from the inspection, it has been ascertained that the work site is barricaded using bracket taps, however some sections of the taps were removed.

The Council said that it intended to refasten the bracket taps and put up a notice advising the public, for their personal safety, not to enter the work site or use the playground for the time being.

It also said that the slide will be repositioned and fastened safely when upgrading works are completed.

A newer and larger set of playground facilities will also be installed at Bulatan Park.

The upgrading and installation of new playground facilities at Miri Bulatan Park is a Rural Transformation Project (RTP) project, proposed by Ting. The 3-month project commenced on Sept 6 and is scheduled to be completed by Dec 6.

“The council is grateful to the general public in bringing up any safety issues at public places for the attention of the council. The general public can rest assured that public safety is the council’s primary concern,” said MCC.  — DayakDaily
