“I have sent a letter to Dr Dzulkefly requesting a few million for the upgrade of Bintulu Hospital facilities.

“If this is approved, then we will make the hospital a satellite heart centre,” said Dr Sim in a press conference at the 8th Asia Pacific Public Health (APCPH) at a local hotel here today.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, said the expenses to purchase equipment for the upgrade would be fully borne by the Sarawak government through the Sarawak Heart Foundation.

Once the upgrading works are completed, he said, experts from Sarawak Heart Centre here would be sent to serve in Bintulu Hospital.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), also present at the press conference were Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, Sarawak Health Department director Dr Veronica Lugah, and 8th APCPH vice chairman Dr Tahir Aris. — DayakDaily
