[UPDATED] Cabinet reshuffle: Mukah, Sibuti, Mas Gading, Miri, Sarikei MPs appointed deputy ministers

KUCHING, Dec 16: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the appointment of new members, as well as a reshuffling of the Cabinet, to the Madani government administration at the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya today, following the vacancies of four ministries.

The appointments are part of a restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and ensuring more effective implementation of government policies.

“There are vacancies in the Cabinet, and a few changes were made so that we have a working Cabinet to help solve the rakyat’s problems,” he said during the announcement, which was streamed live via TV3’s YouTube channel.

The announcement saw Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib (previously Deputy Economy Minister) as the Deputy Minister of Health, whose predecessor, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, is now the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.

Meanwhile, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man was appointed the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, with Sarikei MP Huang Tiong Sii as the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities.

A total of 28 ministers and deputies were appointed, with 10 ministers and 18 deputies, as well as 14 portfolio changes. Those involved in the reshuffle are as follows:

  1. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories): Hannah Yeoh
  2. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories): Datuk Lo Su Fui
  3. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak): Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud
  4. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs): Dr Zulkifli Hassan
  5. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs): Marhamah Rosli
  6. Deputy Minister of Finance: Liew Chin Tong
  7. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation: Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad
  8. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security: Datuk Chan Foong Hin
  9. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs: Lukanisman Awang Sauni
  10. Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development: Lim Hui Ying
  11. Deputy Minister of Higher Education: Adam Adli
  12. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture: Chiew Choon Man
  13. Deputy Minister of National Unity: Yuneswaran Ramaraj
  14. Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry: Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani

Anwar also added that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Istana Negara at 10am tomorrow (Dec 17), followed by a Cabinet meeting at 2.30pm.

Before this, there were four vacancies in the Cabinet, with the portfolios being managed temporarily by other ministers.

The four vacant positions were the entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister; economy minister; natural resources and environmental sustainability minister; and investment, trade, and industry minister.

PKR’s Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stepped down as economy and natural resources and environment sustainability ministers, respectively, in the middle of the year.

Upko president Ewon Benedick resigned as entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, while the investment, trade, and industry portfolio became vacant after the end of Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s final tenure as senator.

Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan took over the economy portfolio, while Johari Ghani, who was the Plantation and Commodities Minister, handled the portfolio of natural resources and environment sustainability.

Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi oversaw the entrepreneur development and cooperatives portfolio. — DayakDaily
