MIRI, Nov 23: Miri mayor and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pujut branch chairman Adam Yii Siew Sang who has been speculated will be named to contest the seat in the 12th Sarawak Election, declined to elaborate further on his possible candidacy.
Yii said he is leaving this matter to the discretion of the party’s top leadership.
“I leave it to the party top leadership to make the decision on whom to represent Pujut seat,” Yii disclosed this morning.
He said this when met after inspecting a proposed site to construct a 6km cycling track worth RM2.3million under Projek Rakyat along the beach front from Piasau Nature Reserve (PNR) to Kampung Pulau Melayu.
“As announced by the party (SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting), seven incumbent assemblymen (from SUPP) will be defending their seats in the 12th Sarawak state election,” Yii said.
“Mine (as Yii has been speculated to stand in Pujut), is subject to the party decision,” he reckoned.
SUPP’s seven incumbents who will be defending their seats are party president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian (Batu Kawah), vice-president Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting (Piasau), Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (Meradong), Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii (Repok), Datuk Francis Harden Hollis (Simanggang), and Lo Kher Chiang (Batu Kitang).
On the cycling track project, Yii disclosed that it is scheduled for completion within six months of construction.
“The project will kick off on Wednesday (Nov 24),” he said.
He hope once the project is completed, more people would visit the area and participate in recreational cycling at the site.
“In Miri we don’t have many recreational cycling facilities, and I believe once this track is completed, more people will come here with their families,” he said. — DayakDaily
