KUCHING, June 11: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has been called to address the ‘unsightly’ and ‘unhygienic’ rubbish bin situation at the common bin area near Galacity and set a good example for public hygiene.

According to Michael Kong Feng Nian, who is special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, the facility is not utilised correctly as despite having a designated area for common bins, MBKS has allowed Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (Trienekens) to place the bins by the side of the road.

“This placement causes an obstruction to road users and blocks the pedestrian crossing, creating a blatant hazard for pedestrians.

“Additionally, rubbish is sprawled all over the pedestrian path, and the grass along this pathway is unkempt and unsightly.

“Large items such as sofas and mattresses are also lying around, with no efforts made to clear the area,” he said in a press statement today.

He further added that the situation does not set a good example for young children as the area is located just outside of SJK (C) Stampin and could send the wrong message about littering and unhygienic practices.

“Therefore, I urge MBKS to take immediate action to clear up the mess and its surrounding areas. It is crucial for MBKS to step up and address these issues promptly to ensure public hygiene and set a positive example for the community,” he said. — DayakDaily
