KUCHING, Dec 10: Motorists can breathe easy as the Transport Ministry (MOT) has assured the public that outstanding traffic summonses have no bearing on their eligibility for the Budi95 petrol subsidy.
According to a news by Malay Mail today, the clarification comes after media reports sparked concern that unsettled summonses could jeopardise one’s subsidy status.
In a statement today, MOT emphasised that traffic enforcement matters and the Budi95 assistance scheme function entirely separately.
“They are not the same matter and do not have any automatic direct connection,” the ministry said.
According to current policy, applicants must fulfil only two key conditions to qualify for, or continue receiving the subsidy:
- They must be Malaysian citizens verified via MyKad; and
- They must possess a valid driving licence.
A licence is considered valid if it is still active or has expired for less than three years.
Nevertheless, MOT reminded motorists to adhere to traffic regulations at all times, stressing that compliance is essential to safeguard all road users. — DayakDaily
