Universiti Teknologi Malaysia names Dewan Premier Sarawak to honour Sarawak government’s support for R&D

KUCHING, Feb 9: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has named a facility Dewan Premier Sarawak at its Johor Bahru campus in recognition of the Sarawak government’s ongoing support and commitment to advancing knowledge- and technology-based development.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated the virtual launch of Dewan Premier Sarawak today during the Land and Survey (LANDAS) Summit 2026 in Bintulu, which was broadcast live on the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) YouTube channel.

According to the emcee at the opening ceremony, the establishment of Dewan Premier Sarawak reflects UTM’s appreciation for the State government’s continued contributions to education, research and technology development.

The emcee said the naming also recognises Sarawak’s contributions, including a RM5 million grant for the Satellite Laboratory under the Fakulti Alam Bina dan Ukur – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Jabatan Tanah dan Survei (FABU UTM-JTS) programme, as well as support for 13 research projects funded through the Premier Sarawak Chair.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh; Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua; Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi; Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti; Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Datu Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood; and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia vice chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim. — DayakDaily
