KUCHING, June 13: More than 300,000 residents in the Kota Samarahan area will benefit from the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Prima Health Centre (PKP), which will commence its operations in September this year.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi revealed apart from the community in Kota Samarahan, the Unimas health facility also benefits nearby residents.
“This health facility construction project is another people-oriented project, a sign of the government’s concern for the people.
“It is another landmark and the only health facility for Kota Samarahan which will certainly provide great benefits in terms of health care and well-being to the people of the area,” he further highlighted.
Nanta said this in his speech at the Project Handover Ceremony after Phase 1 completion of the Teaching Hospital Construction and Unimas PKP here today.
He pointed out that the construction of this health facility will also benefit students majoring in health studies at Unimas as it will improve teaching and learning facilities and be a place for students to undergo practical tests.
“This is highly beneficial because previously they had to undergo practical training at the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS), which is located 25 kilometers from the Unimas campus,” he explained.
The scope of work for phase 1 of this project involves the construction of the PKP itself, surau, nursery, cafeteria, mechanical and electrical building and high-level tank with a total cost including phase 2 amounting to RM485.988 million.
Meanwhile, phase 2 of the project is 40 per cent completed and is expected to be completed on Sept 21, 2025. It will be the first University Teaching Hospital in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
