Unifor disburses RM38,400 to three religious bodies in Sibu

SIBU, Nov 10: Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) disbursed a total of RM38,400 to three religious organisations here.

They were Che Kim Khor Moral Uplifting Society, Sibu Eng Ann Tua Pek Kong Temple Charitable Trust and Tung Lok Sia Association.


They received RM12,800 each.

Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian who presented the funds said it was to assist the organisations to pay their utility bills as their income had been affected during various Movement Control Orders (MCOs) and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We really thank the religious bodies and the places of worship for their cooperation throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“When we asked them to close, they closed and did not ask anything further. Because of them, we were able to control the outbreak in Sarawak,” he said.

Also present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P212 Sibu and 211 Lanang Clarence Ting Ing Horh and Wong Ching Yong respectively.

At another function during his visit to the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong operation room, Dr Sim said he was thankful that GPS component parties which comprised SUPP, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) for the close cooperation and support to the two GPS-SUPP candidates.

“For Sibu (parliamentary seat) it consists of three State constituencies and two State constituencies for Lanang. It required the cooperation of each of the assemblymen working together. So far, I am happy.

“We are very happy with these branches in ensuring that we could win the two seats because for too long they have been under DAP (Democratic Action Party),” he said at a press conference after the visit today.

Dr Sim urged voters in both Lanang and Sibu parliamentary seats to vote for GPS candidates as he said this GE15 “is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Sarawakians to fight for their rights.” — DayakDaily
