KUCHING, Mar 23: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has contributed RM200,000 for the construction of the new Chapel of St Jacob in Kampung Temaga Dayak, Sematan.

The contributions were handed over by Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, during a ceremony which took place on Sunday (Mar 22), reported the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

During the ceremony, Billy expressed appreciation for the strong spirit of cooperation shown by the church and the local community in making the event possible.

However, he said that although the chapel construction project has received an initial allocation, the amount is still insufficient to cover the total estimated cost of around RM1 million.

Therefore, Billy gave his reassurance that he will continue seeking additional funding to ensure the project can be completed.

“Once completed, this chapel will not only provide a more comfortable place of worship, but also serve as a centre to strengthen spiritual values, unity, and family ties within the community,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.

Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, the Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute was also present. — DayakDaily
