Unemployed man pleads not guilty to drug possession

KUCHING, Nov 7: An unemployed man, who is facing a possible life imprisonment upon conviction for drugs possession, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here.

Eriwan Habibi claimed trial to the charge before Judge Marutin Pagan today.


The court fixed Dec 5 for the prosecution to tender chemist report of the drugs found. The accused is to be detained in prison pending disposal of trial.

The accused was allegedly found in possession of 32.03 grammes of Methamphetamine in the parking lot in front of Maybank Matang Jaya, at about 9.45 pm on October 28, 2019.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, which carries imprisonment for life or imprisonment not less than five years and liable to whipping not less than ten strokes, upon conviction.
