Unemployed man jailed for stealing car

KUCHING, May 22: A jobless man was sentenced to one year and five months in jail by a Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing a Proton Wira.

Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof ordered the sentence on Jonmarc Lawai Paran, 32, from Marudi, to start from the date of his arrest.

The accused, who was not represented, admitted stealing the car in front of Mas Cafe in Jalan Gateway, Kota Sentosa, at about 4.20am on May 16 this year.

He was charged under Section 379A(1) of the Penal code and Section 511 of the same Code. The charge under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code carries imprisonment of between a year to seven years and liable to be fined if convicted.

The charge under Section 511 of the Penal Code states any term of imprisonment shall not exceed one half of the longest term provided for the offence. — DayakDaily
