Unemployed man jailed for failing to produce MyKad to policemen

KUCHING, Oct 1: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced an unemployed man to one-month’s imprisonment for failing to produce his Malaysian identity card.

Tan Chia Wei, a 33-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur, pleaded guilty to the charge under Regulation 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 3 years or with fine which may extend to RM 20,000 or with both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced him to an imprisonment of one month, with effect from the date of arrest, Sept 22.

He was initially charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, however, he failed to produce his identity card when asked by the police officers at Kuching Court Complex, at about 11.10 am, on Sept 22, 2020.
