SERIAN, April 6: Police arrested an unemployed 32-year-old man from Kampung Krusen, Tebekang yesterday over drug related offenses.
Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis in a statement disclosed that a raid was carried out by the police narcotics team from IPD Serian in the village following tip-off about illicit activities.
“Upon conducting a search on the suspect and as well as his vehicle, police discovered one transparent plastic bag containing nine smaller transparent plastic packets of various sizes and one straw tube containing lumps of a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine with a gross weight of 9.12 grammes in the vehicle’s coin compartment, under the steering wheel of a car.
“A urine test on the suspect returned positive for methamphetamine.
“The total local market value of the drug seized is about RM1,000 and we believe it is meant for distribution to addicts in Serian district and nearby villages,” Aswandy said.
The suspect was immediately arrested and will be investigated under Section 39A (1) Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs which carries a jail term of not less than two years and not more than five, and whipping of not more than nine strokes; and Section 15 (1) (a) of the same act for consuming dangerous drugs which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 and jail term of not more than two years.
Meanwhile, Aswandy also seek the public’s assistance especially those living in village areas to monitor for drug or any criminal related activities and inform the police. — DayakDaily
