KUCHING, Feb 16: A police report has been filed regarding a Selangor-based travel agency that failed to provide refunds for its umrah services following a last-minute increase in the package price and the agency’s failure to provide promised preparations.
According to a statement by the National Consumer Action Council (MTPN) Sarawak, they have received complaints from affected consumers regarding the issue of refunds not received from a travel agency operating in Selangor that offers umrah services.
“The complainants were scheduled to perform umrah in 2023. However, two days after the intended departure date, they travelled to Kuala Lumpur. Upon arrival, the travel agency issued a memo informing them of an increase in the package price.
“The complainants also claimed the agency failed to provide promised preparations, including flight tickets and other necessities needed for the pilgrimage.
“As a result, each complainant suffered significant losses, with the total losses reaching tens of thousands of ringgit.
“MTPN Sarawak chairman Wynson Ong Teck Ping led the complainants to file a police report to ensure that an investigation is carried out and appropriate action is taken against the parties involved,” it said.
MTPN added that it will continue to monitor the case and urged consumers to be cautious and conduct thorough research before making any financial commitment to the packages offered.
