KUCHING, Jan 15: The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), a department of the Government of the United Kingdom (UK), is in discussion with the Sarawak government on collaboration and support for Sarawak’s net zero strategies and carbon plan, including the hydrogen economy.

In a statement today, the Sarawak Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) said delegates from FCDO UK paid a courtesy call to its Deputy Minister, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, at his office in Baitul Makmur Building here on Friday (Jan 13) to discuss the matter further.

“The Sarawak government has been working closely with the UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions), which is a unique capacity-building programme jointly governed and funded by the UK government’s FCDO and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) through the UK’s International Climate Finance.

“It works in partnership with countries towards emissions reduction and supports them to implement and increase their ambitions for tackling climate change,” it said.

The ministry added that in Sarawak, the UK PACT programme had supported MEESty Sarawak on green economy policy for Sarawak, carbon trading governance framework, and greenhouse gas inventory. — DayakDaily
