KUCHING, Oct 31: The Farmer’s Association (PKK) office in Ulu Layar to have pepper processing and packaging facilities soon, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to Uggah, a total of RM500,000 had been allocated for the purpose, including getting the necessary machines.
“The decision was made to help the farmers find alternative markets especially during the cyclical low price,” he said when speaking at the Betong Agriculture Department’s Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) held at Rh Radin Wilson in Penebak Ulu, in Ulu Layar, today.
Uggah, who is also the assemblyman for Bukit Saban hopes that the local farmers would not give up their farmlands but continue to work on it.
“We will help to provide the fertiliser in order to assist them,” he added.
Also present were political secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Richard Rapu and Betong Division Agriculture Officer Petrus Kang. –DayakDaily.
