KUCHING, March 22: All-out consultations, discussions, and deliberations will be the order of the day for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) and Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in their efforts to reduce delay in the implementation of development projects for the people.

Its minister Minister and Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the close collaboration was imperative.

“The people have very high expectations on the government to deliver,” he said yesterday at the start of the two-day briefing given by JKR Sarawak on the implementation status of major development projects in the State and on other matters.

The Coastal Road Network and Second Trunk Roads projects and Bukit Mabong STOLport (Short Take-off and Landing Airport) are among them.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) State government’s expectations are also very high and so is that of our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“He has set a target for Sarawak to be a developed State in 2030 where its economy will grow at an average of six to eight per cent annually with a forecasted gross domestic product (GDP) of RM282 billion,” he said.

Uggah said his ministry and JKR Sarawak would focus on meeting such expectations.

“Along with my two deputy ministers, Datuk Majang Renggi and Aidel Lariwoo, we will do our best to monitor the implementation to ensure that our delivery objectives can be achieved and at the same time, give us technical advice to move forward. I do not want to hear the ministry and the department taking their respective routes as halfway along the route, we may crash into each other.”

Uggah further stressed that it should be a consensus decision once a decision has been made.

“We should always try to be creative and innovative and learn from past experiences, so that come the time for implementation, we can deliver,” he said.
