KUCHING, Nov 6: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has handed over the chairmanship of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Jaul Samion.

The handover happened yesterday (Nov 5) following the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) becoming the caretaker government until a new government is formed after elections.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Dr Sim Kui Hian, who was SDMC advisor, said it is his honour to have been a member of SDMC during the once-in-a-hundred-year Covid-19 pandemic.

“(I) will treasure both the very different experiences of Covid-19 as a member of policy maker in SDMC versus the SARS outbreak in 2003 as a medical frontliner in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Let all of us continue to support SDMC under SS DA Jaul (Samion) for this challenging 60-day interim till after the election.

“Together, we shall overcome Covid-19,” said Dr Sim in a social media post last night (Nov 5).

The DUN was dissolved yesterday after the King had assented to ending the Emergency Ordinance in Sarawak, paving the way for the State Election to be held within 60 days. — DayakDaily
