KUCHING, Oct 12:  Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is confident that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will retain Bukit Saban, Layar as well as other seats under the State ruling coalition.

Uggah who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president said this in response to the recent news report that Andria Gelayan of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will be challenging him at Bukit Saban in the upcoming Sarawak Election.

“I am confident that I will be able to defend my seat. This is because of the development we have brought to Bukit Saban.  My area is almost 100 per cent covered in terms of electricity, water and roads.  For example, electricity coverage for my area is 97 per cent. I believe people know what we have done for them.

“This is similar for Layar which has experienced very fast development.  I know it because I used to be Betong MP.  Overall, Sarawak has been under fast development especially under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“So I believe we can retain Bukit Saban, Layar and all the seats under GPS,” Uggah told DayakDaily.

Presently, Layar is held by PBB youth chief Rentap Jabu, who is also son of former deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu.

The candidacy of Isik Utau for Layar and Andria under PSB for the coming State election has caught attention of the media as both Isik and Andria used to be GPS supporters.

Isik was once a political secretary to the Chief Minister as well as Jabu’s private secretary while Andria used to work for Sarawak Petroleum Berhad (Petros).

On the reasons why both Isik and Andria opted to stand for the opposition, Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister refused to speculate and said that such questions could best be answered by the duo. — DayakDaily
