SERIAN, June 22: Covid-19 vaccines are provided free of charge to all industrial workers, emphasised Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas as he refuted advertisements claiming these workers need to pay a certain amount to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

He disclosed this after coming across advertisements by certain companies implying that these workers are required to pay a certain amount to get Covid-19 vaccines.

“I would like to clarify here that the vaccine is provided free by the State government.

“With designated vaccination centres (PPVs) established for industry, the employers are footing the costs for the setting up of such centres as well as the service fee for the healthcare teams giving out inoculation,” he explained today after visiting the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Serian community hall here.

Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, pointed out that industry PPVs are necessary for mass vaccinations for all industrial workers as there have been many positive cases linked to workplaces.

“With such facility, we can speed up our vaccination programme for the workers,”

“More industry PPVs would be set up soon including to cater for plantation workers,” he added.

Earlier, Uggah was briefed on the Serian Community hall immunisation operation by its doctor-in-charge Dr Edmund Sim.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus and Deputy State Secretary Datu Ik Pahon were among those present. ā€” DayakDaily
