SIBU, Nov 26: With Covid-19 pandemic in our midst, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and Universitas Bung Hatta, Indonesia had to resort to conducting their MoU signing virtually today.
The virtual MoU signing was for a diploma in quantity surveying offered by Bung Hatta University, for Sarawakian students to engage in a degree course at UCTS.
UCTS was represented by its vice-chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab. Hamid while Professor Dr Tafdil Husni for Universitas Bung Hatta, a university in Padang, Sumatra.
Others included UCTS deputy vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Azlan Ali and Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering and Urban Planning, Universiti Bung Hatta, Dr Nengah Tela.
Speaking at the video conferencing, Dr Khairuddin said with the MoU, diploma in QS students of Bung Hatta could now proceed to complete their degree at UCTS.
“It will take them two years to get a degree here. These students can do their industrial training here for one semester while for the rest of the semesters, they can do it through online learning,” he said.
He added that UCTS was accepting Bung Hatta’s students as their QS diploma is recognised by professional bodies in Malaysia which include Royal Institute of Surveyor Malaysia.
“There are already two Indonesian students at our university. Originally there were 20 but the rest could not make it here due to the pandemic,” said Dr Khairuddin.
Dr Tafdil meanwhile, hoped both universities could foster more cooperation to other areas for the benefit of both parties.
“Am confident that today’s MoU will be the beginning for other cooperations between both universities in the future,” he said. – DayakDaily
