KUCHING, May 11: The First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) commenced today with the opening ceremony officiated by Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Wan Junaidi and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi arrived to attend the ceremony held at the parade ground of the DUS Complex around 9am.
The ceremony began with the Malaysian national anthem “Negaraku” being sung, followed by dignitaries receiving the Royal Salute from the Guard-of-Honour.
Wan Junaidi then inspected the Guard-of-Honour comprising 105 police personnel.
The ceremony continued with a doa recital before concluding with the Malaysian national anthem “Negaraku” and the Sarawak anthem “Ibu Pertiwiku”, after which Wan Junaidi proceeded to the DUS Chambers to deliver his opening address for the DUS sitting.
Among those present were Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and DUS Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
Also in attendance were Sabah Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Panglima Kadzim M Yahya and wife Datin Seri Noraini Salleh, as well as Datuk Al Hambra Tun Juhar and wife Datin Scarlett Suhaili Sambiding.
The Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) said four Bills will be tabled during the sitting, namely the Supplementary Supply Bill (2025), 2026; the Supplementary Supply Bill (2026), 2026; the Sarawak Paddy and Rice Board Bill, 2026; and the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
Of the four, the Sarawak Paddy and Rice Board Bill, 2026 is a new Bill to be introduced during this DUN sitting. — DayakDaily
