Two weeks, 23 ops: Sarawak GOF seizes RM35.31 mln in contraband

KUCHING, Feb 3: The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) recorded 23 successful operations across the State over the past two weeks, seizing unlicensed frozen products, untaxed cigarettes and alcoholic beverages, as well as controlled goods worth a total of RM35.31 million.

In a TVS news, Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the operations, conducted from Jan 15 to 31, included Op Taring Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Chiller, Batas/Awas, and Libas.

During this period, the brigade seized frozen products without permits valued at RM25.01 million, untaxed cigarettes and alcoholic beverages worth RM5.79 million, and essential controlled items such as garlic, sugar, LPG cylinders, and rice totaling RM1.17 million.

“The GOF also disrupted illegal logging activities with timber seizures worth RM425,000 and confiscated unlicensed fireworks and firecrackers valued at RM2.21 million.

“Vehicles and equipment used in these operations were also impounded for further investigation,” Lim said in a statement on Monday (Feb 2).

He added that all arrests and seizures have been handed over to the relevant enforcement agencies for further action.

“The Sarawak Brigade will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to combat smuggling and cross-border crimes, ensuring public safety and security are always maintained,” Lim said. — DayakDaily
