Two suspects in Miri shootout case remanded for 7 days

MIRI, May 17: The two suspects who were caught in the robbery cum shooting episode in Taman Jelita, here, yesterday have been remanded for seven days until May 24 to facilitate the investigation.

Only the second suspect, aged 35, was produced before Magistrate Md Syafique MD Hilmie this morning, as the 49-year-old first suspect has been warded at Miri Hospital.


The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

Yesterday, the two suspects and another individual who is still at large barged into a house in Taman Jelita and held a family of four, including a 4-year-old boy, inside the house for some 30 minutes before a shootout with the police ensued, leaving a mobile police vehicle (MPV) personnel Corporal William Bell Joel, 54, injured on his left arm, while the first suspect was injured on the leg. ā€” DayakDaily
