MIRI, June 21: Two premises in Miri have been issued with Goods Information Verification Notices for selling mineral water beyond the normal price during the recent water crisis here, said Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Miri chief Joe Azmi Jamil today.

He revealed the notices are issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to gain information as well as find out the justification for any price hike by traders.

“They are given 14 days to respond (to the notices issued) and present us the information on what led to the price being increased,” he said.

Joe Azmi said that if found to be profiteering, action against the offender can be taken under Section 14(1) of the Act and they can be fined up to RM500,000 (for corporation or company) or RM100,000 for non-corporation and individuals, or imprisoned for a term not exceeding three years, or both.

Meanwhile, Joe Azmi said, two other traders were compounded for failing to display price tags on goods (mineral water) sold in their premises. — DayakDaily
